WSM-FM Nashville - Nick Archer (May 1980)

Apologies for the late post, but some things got in the way and am now posting this aircheck.

During 1980, WSM-FM was known as "SM95", a station that played soft rock favorites. It was one of the few stations in the United States where up-and-coming singer-songwriters would air a song without having a hit elsewhere. This paved the way for many stations playing soft rock.

From John Young to Nick Archer, SM95 had great DJs. In this aircheck, we feature one of those SM95 DJs, Nick Archer. Nick would go on to operate a recreation of SM95's format on Live365 from 2001 through 2008.

WNOX Sticker (1985)

We take you back to 1985 where 99 WNOX was playing your favorite country music, and competed with WIVK-AM/FM and WNKX (WNOX's sister station). Many DJs including Eddie Beacon and Bill Beason took to the mic at WNOX where they played your favorite country hits.

From 1985, here is a 99 WNOX/Pilot window sticker:

What's To Come... (April 11th edition)

Today is Tuesday, April 11th and am posting this late as life sometimes gets in the way. That includes mowing the yard which is what I did on Saturday at my house. With that said, I recently posted an aircheck of Stan Campbell on Nashville's WSIX-FM as recorded back in 1985.

As for what's to come, watch this blog for two more vintage bumper stickers from the 1980s coming sometime this week. I recently opened up a brand new YouTube channel in addition to the channel I have on the Internet Archive website. Click on Tennessee Radio in the 1980s YouTube Channel and you can check out the airchecks I have posted. More content will be posted as time progresses.

I hope all of you will stay connected to Tennessee Radio in the 1980s, because there is more to come on this website.

WSIX-FM Nashville - Stan Campbell (1985)

Back in 1985, Nashville had two major FM country music stations - WSIX-FM and WSM-FM. WSM-FM was the young gun having launched the format in 1983 while WSIX-FM has played country music longer than WSM-FM. It was back in the 1960s when WSIX-FM launched the "countrypolitan" version of the country music format. Since then, WSIX-FM has been playing your favorite country songs and has featured some exciting personalities.

One of the personalities is featured in this aircheck and his name is Stan Campbell. We take you back to 1985 where we feature Stan Campbell on WSIX-FM.
